Have you spent most of your life saying I wish I had? Or If Only I had? It's
time to stop wishing and start doing.
You may be giving yourself negative messages about yourself.
Many people do. These are messages that you learned when you were young. You
learned from many different sources including other children, your teachers,
family members, caregivers, even from the media, and from prejudice and stigma
in our society.
Once you have learned them, you may have repeated these negative messages over
and over to yourself, especially when you were not feeling well or when you were
having a hard time. You may have come to believe them. You may have even
worsened the problem by making up some negative messages or thoughts of your
own. These negative thoughts or messages make you feel bad about yourself and
lower your self-esteem.
Many times we have been giving ourselves these negative messages and having
these negative thoughts that we aren't even aware of them. It is a learned
behaviour that we have aquired perhaps for many years that we are just used to
living with.
These negative thoughts are what have brought us to If only I had instead of I
did. One key is coming to terms with a negative thought when you have it. Ask
yourself Why do I think that way why am I assuming I can't instead of I can?
The roots of Low Self-Esteem are deep inside probably back to childhood does
that mean you will always have it? Not if you choose to change it.
Changing the negative thoughts you have about yourself to positive ones takes
time and persistence. Replacing the negative thought with the positive one every
time you realize you are thinking the negative thought.
I started with instead of "I don't think I can" to There's No Reason I
Can't
Avoid using negative words such as worried, frightened, upset, tired, bored,
not, never, can't. Replace the negatives with the positives and when you have a
negative thought about yourself ask yourself why you are thinking this way about
yourself.
You would never say things to someone else like the negative thought s you have
about you why say it then? The committ to not saying them anymore.
It takes time but it can be done and one day soon you will say I Knew I /
Could
